Dental Treatment in Japan, circa 1718-1820

(Woodcut fro JAPAN)
Dental Treatment in Japan 1718-1820

In Japan, as in the ancient western world, there were medical offices for simple operations and treatment of injuries.

In addition, our picture shows dental extractions and treatment. Here the Dentist and the patient are depicted in the typical kneeling posture assumed by most Japanese.

Dental disease is universal and has plagued all mankind since the early beginning. Many ancient archeological discoveries reveal evidence of the treatment of dental conditions long before recorded history. As human civilization progressed there was a gradual change in man's eating habits and diet. Vast segments of the population became edentulous at an early age from tooth decay and the almost epidemic incidence of gingival inflammation.

Modern Dentists consistently save more natural teeth by treating the gingival inflammation that in former times remained neglected.
